Water scarcity is one of the greatest challenges the world will face in the 21stcentury.
Access to reliable running water is something many societies now take for granted. The absence of water puts pressure on public health services and can seriously inhibit a nation’s economic growth.
Venezuela provides an example of what can happen to a society without running water. Constant failures on the electric grid have caused the pumping stations to stop working properly.
The lack of water has also been behind the massive wave of migration from Venezuela affecting the entire South American region.
Correspondent Stephen Gibbs reports on how the water crisis is impacting Venezuela and beyond.
